Is there a welcome pack for me to read?

Are the instructors registered and qualified?

A.

Yes, all senior instructors are certificated Black Belts who have been CRB/DBS checked, hold first aid certificates, trained coaching certificates, and are registered with The English Karate Federation.

Do men and women train together?

A.

Yes, all our training lessons are mixed.  We have a good balance of Men, Women, and Children in our club.

Are there any books or literature that I need to purchase?

A.

Every new student is given a Grading Syllabus as part of their Membership pack. This booklet informs you what is required for every belt promotion from the lowest belt up to the grade of 4th Dan Black Belt. This booklet also has the Japanese terminology etc.

Do I have to fight other people?

A.

Yes, but it is light contact only, and not straight away. As a beginner you will slowly learn some fighting moves and techniques which you will practice with others in a controlled environment. As time goes on and your skill improves your instructor may feel you are now ready to take part in dojo fighting practice sessions.

Do I need to speak Japanese?

A.

Yes, a little, all the moves and technique have Japanese terminology. At first you will find it strange but you soon start to pick it up little by little over the months / years.

Is there a membership fee?

A.

Yes, as with all clubs/associations there are fees for annual membership, licence & registration etc.  New Members are required to purchase a new member licence pack, therefore the fee will vary depending on whether you are a new member or existing member.

All new members will be given an opportunity to train for a month without obligation to assess if they want to join our club or not.  After this initial period we require all new members to Purchase a New Member Licence Pack, this pack will include a Licence and Grading book, a Syllabus, two Sew on Badges for your Gi (Karate Suit), and Your insurance premium for the year.

Existing members and new members renewing their membership will only be required to purchase a renewal of their insurance premium for the year.

How much does it cost?

£4.00 only each lesson. Your first lesson is free!

Where do I buy a Karate Suit?

A.

We can supply the suits at a very good price for our students.

Currently Children sized Gi's are £10 and Adult Sized Gi's are £15

Do I need to be fit to start karate?

A.

No, training regular in any Martial Art or sport will increase your fitness. We start you with easy  exercise’s which will increase only as you get fitter over to following months /years.

What do I wear on my first lesson?

A.

You can wear track suit bottoms and a loose T Shirt, nothing on your feet.

What age can I start training Karate?

A.

You can start at age 8 years old, We have no upper age limit

 the best age to start as a youngster is 8-9 years old.
